Premium Worm Castings - Organic Soil Amendment
Vermicomposting is a process that utilizes special types of earthworms to break down organic waste materials into nutrient-rich compost, teaming with microorganisms and micronutrients called worm castings. Note that worms do not eat the food scraps directly, rather they consume the microbes on the decomposing food.
Additionally, the organic matter and beneficial microorganisms present in worm castings stimulate plant growth, improve soil structure, and increase the overall productivity of plants. Plants grown with worm castings often exhibit stronger root systems, more abundant foliage, and higher crop yields. Beneficial microbes and enzymes suppress harmful pathogens and pests in the soil and stimulate the plant’s natural immune system.
Directions of Use: The ideal application rate of worm castings depends on the type of plants and soil conditions.
- Garden Beds and Containers: Apply 10-20% worm castings by volume to the topsoil or potting mix. Mix thoroughly with existing soil before planting or use as a top dressing around established plants.
- Seed Starting: Create a seed starting mix by blending 1 part worm castings with 3 parts seed starting medium. This mixture provides a gentle nutrient boost for seedlings.
- Compost Tea: Brew a nutrient-rich compost tea by steeping 1 part worm castings in 5 parts water for 24-48 hours. Use the strained liquid as a foliar spray or soil drench to nourish plants and boost their overall health.
Note: Keep bag closed and stored in dry area. Always remember to water plants adequately after applying worm castings to ensure proper incorporation into the soil.
